Information for parents and guardians
The NAPLAN tests are designed to assess students skills that are essential for school and life, such as reading and writing. Therefore, the tests are not content based and the knowledge needed to complete these tests should be taught through standard daily lessons in every school in Australia.
It is important to remember that there are no consequences - good or bad - for individual students, the tests are designed to be used by teachers to measure their class progress.

Participation
- Students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9 are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests.
- Adjustments to the testing conditions can be made for students with a disability to ensure that they have equivalent access.
- Parents/carers are able to withdraw their child from the tests.
- If students are absent from the tests, it will be attempted for arrangements to be made for the student to sit the test at an alternative time.
